It's been awhile since I've blogged. Yes, I realize this.
Last night I saw Ani Difranco in Louisville. Wow, she kicked ass. She is SO TINY. An itty bitty girl. But she has a major stage presence. Even though I am not all that familiar with all of her stuff (there's so much of it out there, how could I be?) I still had a good time. She is a really good performer. I would have liked to have not missed the first ten minutes. Blah. Next time, "going out to eat before a concert" will consist of McDonald's drive-thru, not somewhere with a 40 minute wait. :) I also missed Erin McKeown, who'd I'd really wanted to see, since she's been touring with Jian (and I listened to a bit of her cd in Barnes and Nobles, and it was pretty good.) We didn't know she was opening, though. :( Oh, well. However, if I find out I missed Jian in any form, I'll scream! hehe.
Next week I go see
The Pushstars in Cincinnati with Jay. I am excited. :) They're a great band, and I highly recommend them.
I went home last weekend to visit my family and friends. I got to spend quality time with Emily, as well as my mommy and Princess. Princess is the best doggie ever. We went to Outback for Easter dinner, which was pretty good.
I look forward to doing
nothing tonight. Every night since last Friday has been spent on the go, and I need a bit of a break to refuel my mental energies. They're sparese enough to start with.
Ok, a random story, since my life isn't entertaining enough for my liking:
My friend Dana is a first year medical student at Emory in Atlanta. It's a pretty hands-on program it seems, and they work with patients early on. Last semester they were learning to examine lungs. A group of students, including Dana, and a doctor were examing an extremely obese woman with very bad asthma. Every breath she took, you could hear a wheeze. The doctor goes over how to listen to lung sounds with a stethoscope, and Dana, being a brave courageous warrior, goes first. She listens to the top part, and then realizes that the woman is a bit. droopy. Her breasts are very large and are obscuring areas Dana needs to get to, and she can't listen to what she needs to without severe awkwardness. Dana takes the stethoscope out of her ears and takes the doctor aside and asks him what to do. He says to cover her with a sheet, gently move aside the offending breast, listen to the sounds, and then to put everything back. Dana goes over to do so, and puts the stethoscope up to listen. The doctor says, "Dana, do you hear anything?" Dana hears nothing, but decides to fib a bit. "Yeah, I do." The doctor says, "Well, Dana, it usually helps if we have the stethoscope
in our ears."
Dana about died.
Luckily, the doctor was a nice guy and covered for her. "Dana makes a good point. You don't always need a stethoscope to hear the sounds the lungs are making."
That story amused me.
Also, Dana was telling us about what she's going to do for the summer. She's doing gene research on diabetes, and they test on mice. One of the types of research their doing involves the reproductive organs of mice, so they have to collect semen samples. The method of doing this involves electrically shocking the prostate gland, which releases the semen. Eventually, the mice get to like it. Dana could have spent her summer masturbating mice, but decided to take another job in the same project.
That story is also amusing.
Tori is touring for her new album. This makes me think maybe I won't take a week's vacation this year, instead a few days here and there to see some shows. Maybe some mini-trips. I don't know. I'll figure it all out. :)
OK, I really have nothing else to say. Boot Camp is on tonight. I'm ashamed I'm watching it. Goodbye.
